Hibiscus Coast Suburbs


The gateway to the Hibiscus Coast, Silverdale is located conveniently close to the Northern Motorway (SH1), and home to a modern outdoor shopping centre in the new Silverdale Town Centre. Silverdale is also home to a number of local businesses and the Northern Arena gym, fitness and swimming centre.


The new suburb of Millwater is also located conveniently close to the Northern Motorway (SH1), and offers some of the most modern homes in New Zealand, and close to the new Silverdale Town Centre. The Orewa Estuary Walkway and Cycle path is also close by, along with Silverdale Primary school and Kingsway School.


Beautiful Orewa Beach is one of the best beaches in Auckland, and on occasions a great place to surf or kiteboard. Behind the beach lies a lovely shopping area, that includes cafes and bars, and New World and Countdown supermarkets. There are two primary schools and Orewa College providing great education options.


Hatfields Beach is located just over the hill from Orewa along Hibiscus Coast Highway. Hatfields is a smaller suburb, and has a nice east facing beach with boat ramp access, and toilets located across the highway. Hatfields is currently seeing an increase in housing options with new developments in the area.


Waiwera is Maori for 'Hot Water', and is famous for the local Waiwera Thermal Resort, that also offers a gym, group fitness and childrens swimming lessons. Located just six kilometres north of Orewa, Waiwera is a quieter place to live, with many rural properties close by, and Orewa is less than 10 minutes drive away.

Red Beach

The first area you pass through as you enter the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, Red Beach is home to another fabulous beach, surf lifesaving club, and has a small shopping area, whilst being close to Silverdale and Orewa. Red Beach Primary school provides a wonderful place for your children to enjoy a great education.

Stanmore Bay

Stanmore Bay beach is just over two kilometres in length, and across Stanmore Bay Park you will find Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure with 25 and 10 metre pools, along with stadium, gym and fitness classes. Football, rugby league and boating clubs are also located in Stanmore Bay. Stanmore Bay Primary school provides a fabulous education for children from years 1 to 6.

Whangaparaoa (Town Centre)

The Plaza shopping centre lies at the heart of Whangaparaoa, and contains a Countdown supermarket, The Warehouse and Farmers, along with banks, cafes, other popular shops and JACs bar. Whangaparaoa College is located across Whangaparaoa Road, and provides a wonderful modern education facility for years 7 to 13.

Arkles Bay

Whilst being a short drive from the town centre, Arkles Bay offers a slightly more secluded lifestyle than some of the other suburbs along the peninsula. Arkles Bay beach is the first south facing beach along the peninsula, and provides boat ramp access for those wishing to head south towards Auckland or Rangitoto Island.


Another beautiful beach and bay and a great place to go boating with the Manly Boating Club. Whangaparaoa Primary School is located on Ladies Mile providing education from year 1 to 6. Hibiscus Coast Netball is located in Edith Hopper park, and the Manly Bowling club is also located in Manly.

Tindalls Bay

The next bay after Manly is Tindalls Bay, and at low tide there is a very pleasant walk along the beach from Manly to Tindalls beach. More sea views and another relaxing and pleasant Whangaparaoa Peninsula suburb. There is a boat ramp, showers and a playground, and in the summer you can enjoy swimming out to the pontoon in the bay.


Matakatia is another south facing beach, and home to some lovely homes with amazing sea views across to Rangitoto and Auckland. Matakatia also has holiday accommodation including Clear View Bed and Breakfast.

Gulf Harbour

Gulf Harbour is the location of a modern marina facility, boat ramp and Gulf Harbour Country Club and Golf Course. Gulf Harbour offers a more modern style of living, with easily-maintained properties for those with busy active lives. For those who work in Auckland CBD, 360 Discovery provide a popular ferry service directly to the Auckland Ferry Terminal.

Army Bay

Army Bay is located at the eastern end of Whangaparaoa Peninsula, and provides a quieter way of life, whilst still being close to the facilities in Gulf Harbour. Army Bay is close to Shakepsear Regional Park offering many relaxing walks and native flora and fauna. Although there are many modern homes, you can still find some original holiday baches around Army Bay.


Located a few kilometres off East Coast Road, Stillwater reflects it's name, and provides a more peaceful and quiet lifestyle opportunity. The Stillwater Boat Club offers great facilities for local boaties. Modern shopping facilities are just a fifteen minute drive away in Silverdale, or head 15 minutes down East Coast Road for more shopping at Albany Westfield.

Silverdale School

Year 1 to 8

A modern school with wonderful facities for year 1 to 8 (primary to intermediate). Silverdale School is situated in the beautiful surroundings of Millwater in Silverdale.

Orewa Primary School

Year 1 to 6

A modern primary school for year 1 to 6, located on Maire Road, off Grand Drive on the hill above Orewa. Orewa Primary School has an expanding roll due to new developments in the area.

Orewa North Primary

Year 1 to 6

A friendly and popular primary school for year 1 to year 6. Close to the centre of Orewa and Kensington Park and just two blocks back from the beach and a currently growing roll of around 300.

Red Beach Primary

Year 1 to 6

Red Beach School is a community empowering life long learners to achieve and make a difference, for year 1 to 6. Located off Red Beach Road, the school in also home to the Motuora Special Needs Unit.

Stanmore Bay School

Year 1 to 6

A friendly and very popular primary school for year 1 to 6, Stanmore Bay School aims to encourage enthusiasm for learning and develop self discipline, perseverance and confidence in children.

Whangaparaoa Primary School

Year 1 to 6

Located off Ladies Mile in Manly, and is the largest of the primary schools on the Hibiscus Coast. A Learning Powered school promoting Resilience, Reflectiveness, Resourcefulness and Reciprocity.

Gulf Harbour School

Year 1 to 8

Located on Alec Craig Way, Gulf Harbour School offeres education from year 1 to 8, with a vision to pursue authenticity, creativity and excellence in learning.

Wentworth (Private)

Year 1 to 13

Wentworth School offers private education from year 1 to 13 and is located in Gulf Harbour. Wentworth offers smaller class sizes, and Cambridge International Examinations.

Orewa College

Year 7 to 13

Providing education from year 7 to 13, Orewa College provides a supportive and challenging centre of learning for all students in their progress towards an enriched and responsible citizenship.

Whangaparaoa College

Year 7 to 13

Located close to Whangaparaoa Town Centre, the College incorporates the best educational practice from New Zealand and around the world, in a modern school environment.

Kingsway School (Christian)

Stella Maris provides a Catholic education right here on the Hibiscus Coast from year 1 to 8, and is located close to the new Silverdale Town Centre.
